In 1967 the Institute provided the Banff National Army Cadet Camp a trophy to be awarded to the top cadet from the United Kingdom. It was a project by the Institute to mark the Centennial of Canada. The trophy was accompanied with a miniature for the cadet to take home. For years, the trophy was on display in the Mewata Officers' Mess.
In 1999, the Banff camp was closed and a replacement camp was built in the forest NW of Cochrane and named Rocky Mountain National Army Cadet Camp. In recent years, the trophy was retained at the camp.
As part of the Institute's Centennial in 2020, the trophy was brought back to Mewata where the wood was refreshed and the names confirmed to past copies of the Journal. The list is the first draft of the names.
In 1969, future Institute President Major Mark Soehner (Ret'd) was a cadet at Banff, being sponsored by the cadet corps in his Elmira, Ontario high school (shown at right).
