RAUSI and Valour Canada presented 2021 Virtual Speaker Series: The Battle of Vimy Ridge, on the 104th Anniversary of this important WW1 battle.

Remembrance and Vimy Ridge

DR. GEOFFREY BIRD
Dr. Geoffrey Bird is a Professor in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Royal Roads University, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He has held various positions with the provincial and federal governments, as an entrepreneur and as a consultant, as a naval officer, and as a heritage interpreter at the Canadian National Memorial at Vimy Ridge, France. Geoff is also the Project Lead of the War Heritage Research Initiative that has involved the production of over 30 short documentaries and various commemorative projects.

DR. PATRICK BRENNAN
Dr. Brennan is Associate Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Calgary, with research interests in 20th century Canadian political and military history. His areas of specialization include Canada and Military / Diplomatic History. His talk will focus on Canadians at Vimy Ridge: 9-12 April 1917.

Allied Strategy 1917 in the lead up to the Battle of Arras

DR. SPENCER JONES
Dr. Spencer Jones is an award-winning historian and author. He is Senior Lecturer in Armed Forces and War Studies at the University of Wolverhampton and serves as the Regimental Historian for the Royal Regiment of Artillery. His key works include From Boer War to World War: Tactical Reform of the British Army 1902-1914 and Stemming the Tide: Officers and Leadership in the British Expeditionary Force 1914, which was runner-up for the 2013 Templer Medal. His talk will be pre-recorded and will focus on Allied Strategy in 1917 in the lead up to the Battle of Arras.
