Canadian television journalist and author Arthur Kent delves into the continuing investigation of the Murder In Room 117 — the 1979 assassination of U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Adolph Dubs, considered to be the ignition point in America's longest war. Get a sneak peak into the official reopening of the cold case, as even now, the case is before the federal court in Washington, D.C. to recover the original records in the case.

Following a 30-minute presentation, the audience is encouraged to challenge and discuss with relevant questions. These will be non-partisan discussions aimed at generating thought-provoking responses allowing all parties to become better informed on security and defence.

About the Presenter

Arthur Kent began his journalism career in 1973. He has reported for news organizations including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, BBC News, CNN, TBS, PBS, A&E’s The History Channel, The Observer newspaper and Maclean’s magazine. He won Emmy Awards for his part in NBC’s coverage of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre and the December, 1989 Romanian Revolution.

Kent’s documentary, Afghanistan: Captives of the Warlords was broadcast by PBS in June, 2001, three months prior to the September 11 attacks. The film received the Gold World Medal at the New York festivals and a Golden Eagle award from CINE.

The Royal United Services Institute of Nova Scotia extends an invitation to a presentation Wednesday, 20 September, by Brigadier-General J.D.S. Masson, Commander 5th Canadian Division, titled "Our troops are ready." His bio is at: www.canada:ca-canadian-division.

Ongoing events in Canada and the world are keeping the Canadian Armed Forces very active, and are providing insights into how the Forces may and need to operate today and in the future. Brigadier-General Masson will talk about the 5th Canadian Division’s contribution to the Canadian army’s renewed efforts in Eastern Europe, how the conflict in Ukraine has affected how business is done in the division, and his vision for the division.

The event will start at 1 pm at the Royal Artillery Park Officers' Mess, Royal Artillery Park, Canadian Forces Base Halifax, 1575 Queen Street, Halifax, and be followed by questions and answers, to finish about 3 pm.
