Thirty three years have elapsed since the RAUSI's trophy for the Best British Cadet at the National Army Cadet Camp, at Banff until recently, was first presented in August 1967.
Some members have wondered how the very high quality recipients had fared with their careers.
Major K.S. Morgan of HQ Land Command, Cadets, at Wilton, Salisbury, UK, very kindly dredged through the old Army Lists available to her and quite a few outstanding individuals' names emerged.
The 1967 and first, recipient is now Brigadier J.H.T. Short OBE ADC, late 9th/12th Lancers. Since he was born in March 1950, he may well reach higher!
The other recipients have reached senior rank, Lt Col N.J. Edwards who won it in 197 4 and Lt Col John Wootton Royal Engineers who won the trophy in 1976.
Of the other 21 recipients between 1967 and 1990, there was not a trace of ten names while of those who were commissioned in the British Army there are four Majors and six Captains, several of whom have evidently taken early retirement.
The later recipients, in many cases, are still en route to their commissions!
