31 December, 2020
Congratulations to Ms. Kaitlyn Buchart and Lt. Scott Fisher who have been awarded RAUSI bursaries for 2020. Both these individuals spent much of their teens with the Canadian Cadet Organization (CCO) and exemplify the CCO ideals of citizenship, leadership, and fitness. We wish them both well with their studies and in their future endeavours.

I have been involved with the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program since the age of 12 when I joined the 781 “Calgary” Squadron in northwest Calgary. I was an active and engaged participant in the program and an active participant in the training, including optional programs such as survival training, range and music program. I graduated from the program in 2014. While a cadet, I was fortunate to be selected to attended multiple cadet summer training centers such as the Penhold ACSTC, Rocky Mountain NACSTC, Blackdown ACSTC and the Cold Lake CSTC. My last two summers were spent as a staff cadet in Penhold, where I was appointed as a first-year Flight Sergeant for the general training course.
In my final year, I was awarded the Cadet Training Centre Warrant Officer 1st Class position. Following my graduation from the cadet program in 2014, I enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves as a Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer. I was fortunate to return to my home squadron and still work with the 781 “Calgary” Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. While employed there, I have held many roles within the unit and have been asked to participate and teach regionally directed activities offered by the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Northwest).
I have also had the opportunity to work with the cadet supply group for two and a half years working in support of the mandatory and complimentary cadet program. I was recently selected to assist with the development and delivery of virtual summer training for cadets in a COVID 19 environment.
Currently, I am attending school at Yorkville University, and am enrolled in their Bachelor of Business Administration Program, with a specialization in Project Management. A goal in my life is to use this knowledge to help aid me in the creation, development and implementation of starting my own business here in Calgary while continuing to give back to the cadet program.
Eventually, I would also like to work with the cadet program on a full-time basis as I enjoy working with the program and watching what the program has to offer to the future leaders of Canada.

I am honoured to have been a recipient of the 2021 RAUSI Bursary provided by the Royal Alberta United Services Institute. I participated in the Canadian Cadet Organization as a Sea Cadet for 6 years, competing and coaching in marksmanship, biathlon, and sailing while working my way to the position of Coxswain. During my time as a cadet I was the recipient of various awards, most notably the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence, the Navy League Cadet Medal of Excellence, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to Ireland for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic through Cadets, as well as toured the battlefields in Europe as part of an essay contest provided by the PPCLI.
I am currently in my first year at Mount Royal University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. The importance of fitness and community involvement is heavily engrained in my values due to cadets, as such I have founded the Mount Royal University Outdoors Club and have remained active in the sailing, skiing, and climbing communities both in Canada and internationally. I am also working with a group investigating the 2014 mass kidnapping in Iguala, Mexico.
After graduation, I hope to attain a Master's Degree in Psychology, followed by a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology. I would eventually like to undertake research or clinical evaluations in the realm of criminality and prevention/rehabilitation. I am forever grateful for the opportunities and support this bursary has granted me.
