RAUSI has noted for some time the perceived lack of focus and/or attention which the Government of Canada and the DND/CAF have placed on the Arctic Region. RAUSI has called for increased awareness and informed discussion with Canada’s political leaders. In a recent article, Dr Ryan Burke and Lt Col Jahara “Franky” Matisek, PhD, describe the two opposing narratives surrounding this topic. When compared with the urgent military procurement and re-establishment of significant Russian Armed Forces in the Arctic Region, Canada’s perceived lack of focus would indicate a place in the Arctic apologist camp. Canada is clearly behind other Arctic nations in securing its’ Arctic region and must make every effort catch up.
